CIRCLE READS: Enrique’s Journey - May 10, 2018
In keeping with our national and Circle focus on immigration, this spring Circle Reads will be reading Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario. Members will meet on May 10th to share their reactions. Based on a Pulitzer Prize winning series Nazario wrote for the LA Times in 2002, this book is the searing story of a 17 year-old boy’s effort to reunite with his mother in the US. Nazario bases her account of Enrique’s dangerous and terrifying journey from Honduras to the US and his difficult adaptation to a new world on four years of intensive research, including a number of trips retracing the boy’s journey and countless interviews with him and other undocumented migrants. She tells the story with compelling honesty. The book includes an extensive afterword, placing Enrique’s experiences within the larger framework of illegal immigration. The Ivy is carrying the book, and members will receive a 10% discount. Watch your email for more information on how to join this fascinating discussion.
