City Seeds, a Humanim Social Enterprise Program

Humanim’s City Seeds culinary program creates economic opportunities for Baltimore City residents with barriers to employment. City Seeds offers a 16-week training program in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen and front-of-the-house management, along with individual counseling to help each woman maximize her strengths and become a reliable employee. Each woman is guaranteed employment after graduation, either with Humanim or with partner organizations.

For entrepreneurs, City Seeds runs The School of Food, a yearlong program that equips them to run and grow a small food business, through individual coaching and financial skills classes.

Funding from the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle paid for the salary of a Case Manager to provide training and support for thirty people in the culinary area. Of that population, 80% participated in case management, and the provision of tech assistance to the 30 trainees which exceeded the original goal.
