Girls' Empowerment Mission

The Girls' Empowerment Program serves 36 girls from low-income homes plus 131 alumnae. The three-year program encompasses college preparation, effective habits for success, career exploration, money management, culture, leadership, service to others, mental and physical wellness, and healthy relationships. Monthly there are two evening programs (physical exercise, homework assistance, dinner, and activity, and discussion) and one weekend retreat providing exposure to female role models, new experiences, valuable life lessons, and time to discuss what has been learned. GEM girls also provide over 30 hours of service to others yearly. Each girl is paired with a female mentor who keeps in touch by phone once per week and in person twice monthly. To join, girls must have a recommendation from a teacher, compete an application, and participate in a series of rigorous interviews.

BWGC funds support general operating expenses.
