The Baltimore Women's Giving Circle is pleased to announce that 23 non-profit organizations in the Baltimore area working on behalf of underserved women and families received grant awards totaling about $530,000, effective July 1, 2020. Since the Circle's founding in 2001, its members have donated over $6.3 million dollars to organizations that are assisting women and families to achieve self-sufficiency.
The grant pool available for awards this year is due to the very generous donations from over 450 members. The recipients of these grants include start-up organizations receiving awards from the Circle for the first time, as well as more mature organizations. Grants range from $13,000 to $25,000.
The Circle's grant-making process is unique, even more so this year with COVID-19. This winter over 100 Circle members participated as grant readers in teams that read 118 applications. While many teams were able to conduct in-person interviews, COVID-19 erupted in the middle of the process forcing many to hold conference calls instead. Readers and applicants rose to the challenge and 47 organizations were recommended for funding. The finalists were selected by Circle members who read summary documents detailing an applicant's organization and mission, the program proposed funding, and its demonstrated ability to support women and their families on their path to self-sufficiency as well as measurable outcomes that would confirm success.
