The Baltimore Women's Giving Circle is very pleased to announce that 24 non-profit organizations in the Baltimore area working on behalf of underserved women and families received grant awards totaling more than $489,300, effective July 1, 2018. Since the Circle's founding in 2001, its members have donated over 5 million dollars to organizations that are assisting women and families to achieve self-sufficiency.
This is a great year for the Circle in its commitment to connect women and improve lives. The grant pool available for awards this year is due to the very generous donations from over 460 members. The recipients of these grants include start-up organizations receiving awards from the Circle for the first time, as well as more mature organizations. One-year grants range from $6,500 to $20,000. Two organizations, PIVOT, Inc. Women's Reentry Program, and CASA of Baltimore County, a program expanding Fostering Futures -Women's Initiative, received two-year grants worth $25,000 per year.
The Circle's grant-making process is unique. This winter over 100 Circle members participated as grant readers in teams that fanned out through the Baltimore area to meet applicants and conduct site visits. Members presented their funding recommendations to Circle members who then voted to select the one-year grants. Five of the winning organizations were offered the opportunity to compete for a two-year grant by making a presentation at the May Full Circle meeting. The finalists were selected by Circle members who attended the event via an anonymous vote.
