To help this multi-year program supplement classrom learning and expose bright, high school students from low income homes to science and technology-based careers where minorities are underrepresented. STEPS enrolls 60 Baltimore City Public School eleventh grade students each year. It offers field trips and classroom activies; a paid summer internship; college counseling, help with college applications, financial aid, and ongoing support throughout college. Eighty-four percent of STEPS participants to date have earned a college degree. Many STEPs alumni remain involved as mentors, tutors, internship sponsors, and volunteers.
