Working Women for Stable Families

Maryland New Direction's  mission is to train and coach people facing career and life transitions to overcome barriers, restore self-belief, and acquire the skills and tools needed to secure employment.

Maryland New Directions (MND) Working Women for Stable Families Program provides career training in the hospitality, commercial transportation and maritime fields. The women also receive case management, transportation assistance, computer training, individual counseling, interviewing and networking practice, professional attire, job placement assistance, and two years of follow-up support. The free training enables participants to obtain living-wage employment that supports their families. MND has partnerships with many employers, and women are easily placed in career-path positions.

The Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle grant provided specialized career training and support services to at least 115 women served by the MDN program to lead to better employment for them.  Training provided in 3 main employment areas: hospitality, maritime transportation, distribution and logistics, and commercial transportation. One-hundred nineteen (119) female household heads began MND training with 70% completion and 78% employment.
